Filipino President Benigno S. Aquino III admitted he is dating a popular Korean TV celebrity there.
All media eyes have been on the 52-year-old bachelor head of state in recent days for his alleged romantic relationship with Grace Lee, who recently turned 30.
In a media interview Wednesday, Aquino said, “We're seeing each other.” He did not provide further details. “I think I'll leave it at that,” he added.
Lee said on her TV program that “what the president said is true.”
Aquino's love life has amused the nation. Since becoming president in 2010, he has split up with a town councilor and then dated two other women.
His love affair with Lee was first made public last week in a Twitter posting that said Aquino went out on a date with her. Filipino media outlets have already churned out stories regarding the couple, raising the possibility for her becoming the Southeast Asian nation’s first lady.
Lee has remained silent on the matter, saying, “He (President Aquino) has my highest respect so I think that it’s better that I leave it to the President to speak on the matter.”
The two reportedly first met in June last year at a groundbreaking ceremony for a power station in Cebu where Lee was the event’s emcee. Aquino acknowledged Lee as “gwapa” (beautiful) before he made his speech, according to local media.
Lee was born and raised in Seoul, but moved to the Philippines at the age of 10 because of her father’s business.
