Of course it is not true that most northern italians are blond with pale skin. I have been living in Bergamo in the Lombardy for years and the people there looked to me just like any average italian. Fairer than some southern Italians on average but quite similar to an average spaniard.

Northern italians are like average spaniards in appearance. Southern italians have a stronger greek ancestry, but on average they are still quite similar to an average italian.
