It just seems a common misconception that Latin music is all one an the same thing, when in fact there are very specific rhythms from different regions - Mexico being void of most, because the main influence on Mexican music is German(polka). Since the movie is set in Mexico, Elvis might as well sing "Mariachi". It would fit as well as Bossa Nova. Also, Samba first and foremost refers to a rhythm. Without rhythm, there is no dance.
