There are letters written by a Roman geographer named
Pomponius Mela that mention the city of Lisbon (Ulyssippo in Latin and
Olissipo in Greek) Lisbon was founded by Ulysses. The Greeks were there
till the Punic wars were over, then the Romans conquered the Peninsula
and remain till the Moors invaded in 711. The Greeks continued to
influence the Portuguese culture till the times of the discoveries, you
can see that clearly on the book "LUSIADAS" an epic poem by Luís Vaz de
Camões
